Excuse me, but the issue isn't good opinion or bad opinion. Everyone has a right to an opinion - "good" or "bad" - good meaning you like this effect, bad meaning you don't.
One should vilify those who don't like the effect (for whatever reasons they may have for not liking it.) Good or bad is in the eye of the beholder and in this context a so-called "bad" opinion is no less valid than a "good" opinion.

There are 2 issues involved here. One is personal "taste". Some viewer's tastes are in concert with the writer of the tutorial, some are not and some qualify their opinion ("I like it but. . .or "I don't like it but. . .).

The other issue is: does the writer of the tutorial teach the viewer something useful that would enable him or her to enhance a visual in a unique way. Personally, I don't like the effect applied to this visual. It makes the author of the tutorial look like he's trying to create some fantasy "dream girl" but, instead, the model just looks fake (imitation 3D effects tend to have that quality). However, that doesn't mean that there isn't any significant potential to the process the author is revealing to the viewer. I think this lesson should be in every serious digital imager's bag of tricks. It's clever, easy and potentially of significant creative value for many digital artists/experimentalists.

I'ts fine, im my render it didn't look so well, so used the gaussian blur layer only, i'd liked it.

theo on 15.12.2007. 21:49

why are all these tutorials sooo perverted?

Marc on 05.12.2007. 13:43

Great Tutorial. I like the way you made it so simple. If you were able to make lessons so easy available on a website, I'd pay a few dollars for each lesson!

Nice effect. Another similar effect is to duplicate your image then set blending mode to "Overlay" then reduce opacity to around 40% (Or whatever works best). Either of these effects suit a specific niche though, so use them based on what youre going for.

that helped me out more
thx mike.

Great tutorial.

I think its a cool effect. It's an effect people. Just like everything else out there. That effect was not meant to make it look natural. And no matter how many "well lit studio shots" you see, they ALL have some touch up and post production done to them. The people who are talking bad about it are really immature. If you don't like it, don't use it. Some people are really rude.

Muhammad zia on 28.10.2007. 12:44

Anyone talking about leaving nature alone needs to uninstall photoshop right now.

Also.
Thanks for the tutorial.

james on 18.08.2007. 05:17

The comment that said "leave nature alone" made me laugh. Like anything on that body is natural.

Timmy on 17.08.2007. 22:14

All you did was destroy a perfectly fine photo, though now it would fit a myspace-page way better. Or a crappy rap-album cover.

Jimmy on 17.08.2007. 18:35

WTF is that possibly supposed to be... crap total crap, wow you made it look shiney well done
Tip: get a life

Sam on 17.08.2007. 17:57

Leave the guy alone if you've only got bad things to say, he's only showing you how this particular effect is created. It dosen't have to be perfect as it is only an example and is designed only to educate those interested in producing this effect.

Ring on 17.08.2007. 17:49

I don't understand why some of you bother to write bad comments. If you don't like it or can't use it, then don't use it. Opinions are like a$$holes, everyone has one.

Mike on 15.08.2007. 04:08

Nice effect. Another similar effect is to duplicate your image then set blending mode to "Overlay" then reduce opacity to around 40% (Or whatever works best). Either of these effects suit a specific niche though, so use them based on what youre going for.

Michael Ott on 15.08.2007. 00:41

Gah! Why not add a lens flare as well? Oh I know why...because it is lame enough already.

And you left out several steps, like having the subject in a well lit studio for starters. For as crap as this example looks, it will look even worse with one of your average digital snaps. And how about separating her from the background? (which is done poorly in this example).

Not trying to discourage you, but there is no point adding to the wealth of bad tutorials online already.

Brigander on 14.08.2007. 16:56

leave good things alone... the original pic was better than your "render"

simon on 14.08.2007. 09:12

Real nice effect, looks much better after your treatment

Mudkips on 12.08.2007. 19:44

That looks stupid.

Sheldon on 12.08.2007. 14:13

Good idea, but unless your photos are perfect studio shots (like the sample), the colors tend to be very harsh and require more fine tuning.

XLR8 on 12.08.2007. 13:25

This is really handy, makes the picture come to life just that little more ;) thx!

Sirinada on 12.08.2007. 05:17

I wanna try, thanks a lot!
